Gabaldon grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona. She received a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Northern Arizona University from 1970 to 1973, a master’s degree in marine biology from the University of California, San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography from 1973 to 1975, and a PhD in behavioural ecology from Northern Arizona University from 1975 to 1978.
Gabaldon founded Science Software Quarterly in 1984 while working at Arizona State University’s Center for Environmental Studies.
